Our client, an NGO that works in Youth Representation and Advocacy is looking for a Gender Officer to join their team. The Gender Officer will be responsible for promoting gender equality and making sure that gender perspectives are integrated throughout our client’s programs and projects. He/she will work closely with the team, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community stakeholders to ensure that the health programs, policies, and services are responsive to gender considerations and are inclusive for all.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Advocate for gender-responsive budgeting and monitor policy implementation.
  • Assist in the development of concept notes, project documents, policy
  • Assist project management in providing strategic direction and leadership in ensuring that gender receives due priority and visibility and is deliberately and effectively promoted.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to create gender-responsive health initiatives.
  • Conduct gender analysis and research to identify specific health needs and gaps.
  • Develop and implement specific initiatives that address health disparities, advocate for the health rights of people of all genders (men, women, boys, and girls), encourage men’s involvement in healthcare, and work towards eliminating gender-based violence.
  • Develop and implement strategies for gender-inclusive health policies and programs.
  • frameworks, and research area and gender issues for best practices as directed by the supervisor.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of gender-related policies and interventions.
  • Monitor and report on project-related gender issues in the region.
  • Provide advice and support to the Project Managers and program officers in the Implementation of the key gender components across all projects.
  • Provide brief updates on the development of gender-related issues and the country at large.
  • Provide technical assistance and training on gender-related issues to the ministry of health.
  • Raise awareness about gender inequalities through public outreach and partnerships.
  • Support in writing stories related to program and project developments as they relate to gender equality issues.

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies or equivalent qualifications. A Master’s degree in Gender, Public Health or Development Studies is an added advantage.
  • Must have strong knowledge and understanding of the National Gender Policy and the Anti-Gender Violence Act.
  • Must have strong experience in integrating Gender in health services across multiple levels and settings, including health facilities and community-level structures (NHC, SMAG).
  • Must have a strong understanding of the Zambian health system and health policies.
  • Should have a clear understanding of the USAID Gender equality policy and programming in Gender related programs.
  • Should have at least 3 years of experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring Gender-related health programs, particularly in the areas of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCAH&N).
  • Should have vast experience in providing technical assistance in health systems strengthening and capacity building.
  • Should have prior experience working with MoH, NAC, and donor agencies such as PEPFAR, CDC, USAID, WHO, etc.
  • Should have excellent verbal and written communication skills including a high proficiency in the use of computers.
  • Should be able to work independently with minimal supervision and under tight deadlines.
