ORBS's client is a social enterprise that supports wildlife conservation and small-scale farmers in Zambia is a detail-oriented and organized individual to join their team as an Assistant Grants Accountant. As an Assistant Grants Accountant, you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining accurate financial records for grant-funded projects. You will work closely with the Grants Accountant and other team members to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and regulations, as well as provide support in financial reporting and analysis. Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management: Assist in the management and tracking of financial transactions related to grant-funded projects, including recording revenues, expenses, and other financial activities accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with grant guidelines, regulations, and reporting requirements by reviewing and monitoring financial activities and documents related to grants.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the Grants Accountant to assist in the preparation of grant budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to ensure accurate and timely reporting to funding agencies.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain financial records, reports, and documentation related to grant-funded projects, including grant agreements, expenditure reports, and other financial documents.
  • Audit Support: Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing necessary financial documentation, answering queries, and addressing any audit-related requirements.
  • Grant Administration: Assist in the administration of grant funding, including monitoring spending, tracking deadlines, and assisting with grant closeout procedures.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Liaise with program managers, finance team members, and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination regarding grant financial matters.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in grant accounting procedures, and assist in implementing best practices to enhance financial management.

Requirements:

  • Education: Holder of a CA Zambia or ACCA or Accounting degree.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in grant accounting or financial management, preferably in a nonprofit or government setting.
  • Must be a member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA)
  • Knowledge of Grants: Familiarity with grant guidelines, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Financial Software: Proficiency in using accounting software and MS Excel for financial analysis, reporting, and data management.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support the Grants Accountant and other team members as needed.
