Assistant Process Manager

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the Northwestern region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km southwest of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Assistant Process Manager.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Process Manager, your duties will include but not limited to the following;

Responsibilities

• Engage with process plant Operational Superintendents- TSF, Operations and Metallurgical in keeping alert on any deviations in the KPIs and correct any threats to the achievements of targets in real time.
• Ensure that all plant operatives are equipped with knowledge and training needs identified for any skills gap within the workforce to enhance productivity.
• Provide leadership and specialist metallurgical and operational support to the Lumwana Process plant team with the objectives of cost, quality, environmental and safety-controlled production of copper concentrates.
• Persuading, influencing and managing conflict resolution through setting of expectations and follow up with demonstrated accountability.
• Ensure that the production plans are achieved on a daily, weekly, and monthly targets throughput and ensuring that the budget numbers are achieved through proper planning.
• Prepare an annual plan for the production as well as required in accordance with overall organization plan, ensuring that all availability and utilizations are achieved.
• Ensure that the final metal product is high quality, and the recovery of the final product are as per budget plan and most importantly above budget plan achievement
• Relieve the Process Manager whenever he is offsite

Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or equivalent
• Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a Production and Metallurgical Superintendent role in a base metal Processing plant.
• Minimum five (5) years as a Senior Plant Metallurgist Operations or Metallurgical Technical
• Ability to work as part of a team and encourage people and using their strengths
• Ability to establish and maintain a “be of service” culture amongst the team

• Ability to direct employees to achieve set targets
• Proven relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate with and relate to all levels in the organization and with personnel from a wide range of backgrounds

• Proficient spreadsheet and database applications
• Demonstrated project management experience
