Purpose of the Position

  • To conduct assessment, design and review of water resource development projects and follow up implementation on all water supply projects in the Area Programmes (APs). Communicate World Vision’s Christian ethos and demonstrate a quality of spiritual life that is an example to others.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Identify and assess sites for location of water points.
  • Carry out hydro-geological investigations to assess suitability of sites for drilling boreholes
  • Supervise drilling of boreholes, well development and pump testing activities
  • Support data and information gathering, preparation of database and hydro-geological maps
  • Engage in water resources development studies and operations research.
  • Conduct field monitoring and provide onsite technical assistance to WASH Development Facilitators.
  • Prepare timely and regular monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual reports of the program
  • Prepare bill of quantities, specifications and cost estimates for water resource development projects jointly with Area Programmes.
  • Supervise and support drilling ream and construction technicians.
  • Must participate/lead in devotions and attend WV chapel services to maintain WV Christian ethos and culture.

Child and adult beneficiary safeguarding:

  • The role holder will have direct contact with children/or young people and adult beneficiaries either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively, because they will be working in the Area Programme. Therefore, the job holder is expected to maintain high levels of Safeguarding to the beneficiaries.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • BSc Geology or Eng/MSc Hydrogeology/Water Resources with four yrs work experience
  • Must have not less than 4 years’ work experience
  • Proven experience in site assessments and investigations
  • Proven record of working in complex environments
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Register member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia
  • Holder of a clean Valid Driver’s license
  • Other Competencies/Attributes:
  • Must have excellent report writing, communications, interpersonal, analytical, decision making, conflict management skills
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, and must be a mature Christian.
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Capacity to function well in a team and contribute effectively to team efforts.
  • Must be an analytical and broad thinker.
  • Must be a committed Christian and inspire other, able to stand above denominational
  • Perform other duties as required.

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field (80% field work)
  • Travel: 20% Domestic travel is required.
  • On call: when called upon
