The Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) is a semi-autonomous Think-Tank whose mandate is to conduct socio-economic research and policy analysis in order to provide evidence-based policy advice to the Government, the private sector, civil society and other stakeholders in Zambia. ZIPAR also promotes economic literacy thereby encouraging increased stakeholder participation in national policy dialogue and debate on economic topics of wide public interest. Reports to: Research Fellow I

Job Purpose

• To conduct research and policy analysis in each of the above areas, under the direction of a Research Fellow I, and generating findings and policy recommendations to be provided through various dissemination and policy dialogue platforms and engagements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Under the direction of a Research Fellow I or Senior Research Fellow conduct relevant research and relate it to practical policy implementation;

• Drafting and editing policy documents and literature reviews;

• Develop and actively manage a network of contacts in the Government, the region, development partners, academia, private sector and civil society;

• Participate in reviewing and proof reading of project reports and working papers.

• Be an active member of ZIPAR’s research committee;

• Assist with project development work, fundraising and maintaining relationships with existing funders;

• Work on own initiative and as a member of a team;

• Such other appropriate duties allocated by the Executive Director or a Research Fellow I.

Required Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Economics or any closely related field [Human Development];

• A Master’s degree in Economics, or any other closely related field [Trade and Investment];

• Each of the above with 5 years relevant work experience as a Researcher in a related position;

• The ability to carry out research using qualitative and/or quantitative research methods and present findings to range of audiences;

• An understanding of the Zambian economy, regional, continental and global issues relevant to each field;

• Excellent communication skills, written and oral in English;

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate confidently and positively with a range of people both internally and externally;

• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, statistical/econometric packages such as SPSS, Stata and internet search engines;

• Ability to carry out field work in any of the local languages.
